London mayor eyeing Super Bowl bid, other hosting opportunities for major sporting events if re-elected

The Super Bowl could be heading across the pond in the future if London mayor Sadiq Khan gets his way.

The 53-year-old Labour Party leader said on Thursday that he's aiming to bring the "Big Game" to London if he's re-elected for his third term on May 2.

Khan went further on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday, saying that London was "the sporting capital of the world" and he wasn't going to limit the city's potential to American football.

London is already the sporting capital of the world.

London won the vote to host the 2012 Summer Olympics in 2005 under then-mayor Ken Livingstone. Khan has been mayor since 2016.

London has hosted NFL regular-season games every year since 2007, but all 58 Super Bowls have been held in the United States across 16 different cities.

The next three Super Bowl locations have already been determined.

Super Bowl LIX will take place in 2025 in New Orleans, Super Bowl LX will happen in 2026 in Santa Clara, California and Super Bowl LXI will occur in 2027 in Inglewood, California.

London has hosted NBA games dating back to 1993 but hasn't seen the Association since 2019.
